Types of School Bus Driver Employment:
Full-time Regular Route Bus Driver - Drives a regular designated bus route on days that school is in session. Minimum of 4 hours/day with a split work shift during the school day. (Approximate times: Morning Route 6:00 am - 8:00 am; Afternoon Route 2:15 pm - 4:15 pm.) Must be available to attend safety training as required by the state and the district. Some extra duty trips may be required. Route rates reviewed annually and includes benefits according to Board policies.
Part-Time Substitute Route Bus Driver - Drives on days that a Full-time Regular Route Bus Driver is unavailable for a shift. Works on a part-time "as-needed" basis on days school is in session. Must be available to attend safety training as required by the state and the district. Some Extra Duty Trips may also be available. Paid on a per route/per shift basis.
Part-Time Extra Duty Trip Bus Driver - Drives students and teachers/coaches to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that are scheduled outside of the District and typically outside of the normal school day (evenings and weekends). Works on a part-time "as-needed" basis. Must be available to attend safety training as required by the state and the district. Paid on a per hour basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
An individual who holds this position is responsible for:
- Transport students over specified routes according to an established time schedule.
- Obeys all traffic laws
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses as prescribed by state, federal and district policies.
- Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
- Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned bus clean.
- Pre-trips and post-trips the bus according to state/district procedures.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out of district school trips.
- Attends safety meetings and summer in-service meetings.
- Submits to all required DOT required random drug and alcohol screening.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Keeps all required licenses current.
- Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills with coworkers, students, and parents.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
- Ability to understand and adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Driving extra duty trips if available.
- Ability to read and write simple sentences in English, read and understand maps and possess basic writing skills sufficient enough to complete pre and post trip reports and student discipline referrals.
- Adheres to good safety practices.
- Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- All other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- Valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License with S and P endorsements as prescribed by state law.
- Successfully complete the training program provided by the district.
- Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

Physical Demands
The employee must be able to sit for long periods of time. Occasionally walk and stand. Frequently bend and twist the torso and neck. Frequently use repetitive arm, wrist and hand movements. Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds. Use close, distance, and peripheral vision as well as depth perception.

Must be able to hear a conversation in a noisy environment

Conditions and Environment
Employee will frequently work in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Occasionally work in rain, sleet and ice and drive on slippery conditions. Often work in a high area with a high noise level including engine noise and the sound of many children speaking, a raised voice may be necessary.
