START DATE: August, 2026 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Teacher contract days according to the District school calendar, with benefits according to Board policy.  The District currently participates in the MO Teacher Baseline Salary Grant ($40,000 minimum) and Career Ladder (Stages 1-3).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Valid Missouri teacher certificate for appropriate level:  Guidance Counselor K-8 or K-12; or such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

REPORTS TOBuilding Administrator

 

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

 

Benefits:                      

¨ Sick Leave - 11 days/school year, accumulative to 180 days

Summary

The Guidance Counselor is to offer the student counseling and comprehensive, developmental guidance services in the areas of personal/social, educational/academic, and career/vocational growth and development which will enable him/her to live successfully and become a contributing member of society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement the guidance curriculum 
  • Guide and counsel groups of individual students through the development of educational and career plans 
  • Counsel small groups and individual student with problems 
  • Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students
  • Refer students with severe problems to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents
  • Building level 504 Coordinator, responsible for evaluation and development of 504 Accommodation Plans
  • Site Testing Coordinator, assisting with the administration of state and district
    assessments, including MAP End of Course and ELL state assessments
  • Supporting the overall district’s educational program through general consultation activities and committee work
  • Assist with the placement of students in appropriate career and educational settings 

 

Qualifications

  • Valid Missouri School Counselor certification
  • Teaching experience preferred. 
  • School counseling experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrated success in mediation & relationship building. 
  • Knowledge of Missouri’s Model Guidance Program.

 

Skills and Abilities

Language

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  • Respond to common questions and complaints
  • Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures, government memos and statutes
  • Write staff memos and ordinary business correspondence
  • Keep information confidential when required by law, policy or a particular situation

Computation

Ability to compute ratios, percentages and create and interpret graphs and figures

Reasoning

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

Technology

An individual who holds this position must have:

  • Basic computer word processing, research, and internet skills
  • An ability to effectively integrate available technology into the curriculum
  • An ability to access and create reports using the district’s student information

            software

 

Other Job Functions

  • Attend all meetings and training sessions as directed
  • Assist administrators with the distribution and interpretation of standardized tests scores for students and parents
  • Assist administration in coordinating counseling in crisis situations
  • Attend Special Education IEP meetings upon request.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech,  dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting 
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills
  • Adheres to good safety practices
  • Ability to understand and adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies 
  • All other duties as required or assigned

 

Physical Demands

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously.  They must be able to move around the classroom and read handwritten or printed materials.

 

Attendance

Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading or unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess or other activities.
